The Wall Street Journal: Managing Project
/ Process Flow
OBJECTIVE
Develop and document a methodology for documenting, as
well as, managing documents in an effort to standardize documentation
processes and to ensure the most efficient flow of information and
work between the numerous tracks involved in The Wall Street Journal
online projects.
Key considerations:
Audience: Accessible to staff working on both Mac and PC platforms
Easily shared documents
Efficient process
Easily updated
Involve all development tracks to ensure use by all team members
MY ROLE
This assignment involves three levels:
1- Create a central location for accessing all project documents from all tracks.
Result: I developed a web page centralizing access to all relevant
documents, graphics, etc. This page was a posting location for new documents,
revised documents, and update status information. This page type was
first utilized in the Company Research Project, and will become a standard
part of every project cycle.
2- Standardize the format and process for creating and distributing Functional
Specifications.
Result: A process and format for creating functional specs in
an efficient, cross-platform, standardized is under development. Document
file format was chosen based on file sharing, printable, and downloadable
capabilities.
3- Document the above two processes in order to facilitate implementation
by all department staff members.
